Agkistrodon piscivorus piscivorus is a venomous pitviper, one of three subspecies of Agkistrodon piscivorus, with different geographic distributions, found in the south eastern United States. Common names: eastern cottonmouth, cottonmouth moccasin, water moccasin, moccasin. Order: Squamata, Suborder: Serpentes, Family: Viperidae, Genus: Agkistrodon, Subspecies: Agkistrodon piscivorus piscivorus (Lacépède, 1789).

This is NOT a cotton mouth. There are clearly lines on the mouth of the snake which indicate that it is a harmless water snake, NOT a venomous cottonmouth. |
