Mallee fowl, turkey-like bird that lives in the semi-desert mallee scrub area of Australia. Eggs are laid in winter in pits scratched in the ground and covered; the birds do not use their own body heat to hatch the eggs. When the young hatch, they dig their way out. Length: to 69cm.
