The white-chinned jacamar (Galbula tombacea) is a species of bird in the family Galbulidae. It is found in the Amazon Basin of Colombia, Amazonas and norther parts of Ecuador and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical swamps. Order: Piciformes, Family: Galbulidae, Genus: Galbula, Species: Galbula tombacea Spix, 1824.

Taxonomy: Galbula tombacea Spix, 1824, São Paulo de Olivença, Brazil.
Traditionally considered a member of the species-group centred on G. galbula (which see); most closely related to G. cyanescens and G. pastazae, especially former (see below). Differences between nominate race and mentalis possibly clinal. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution
G. t. tombacea Spix, 1824 – E of Andes in Colombia (S of Villavicencio, in Meta), NE Ecuador (Napo), NE Peru (Loreto), and W Brazil S of Amazon (E to Tonantins area).
G. t. mentalis Todd, 1943 – NW Brazil on both banks of R Solimões (E to R Negro and R Madeira). |
