The honey possum, Tarsipes rostratus, weighs in as one of the smallest of marsupial mammals, averaging between 6-12 grams. This species is an obligate nectarivore which means it uses its long adapted tongue to gather pollen and nectar from many blossoming flowers. It is the only non-flying mammal that depends entirely on flowers for nutrition. |
