Screaming Piha in Suriname

Screaming piha

Photo of a screaming piha, made by N. Takano (
personal
museum of natural history
and of course his copyright as with
other photographers). These birds make the sound that is typical
of the rainforest in Suriname and they are constantly
calling
very loudly. And not without a
reason. Males have their own small territory from which they sing
to attract the females, eventually to mate. Several males near
each other have a contest area that is called a lek. They are
difficult to see, grey and sitting almost immobile most of the
day, just calling. I read that they eat fruit and do not spend
much time to gather it.
