The hammer-headed bat (Hypsignathus monstrosus), also known as the big-lipped bat, is a megabat widely distributed in equatorial Africa. The hammer-headed bat is a member of the family Pteropodidae within the suborder, Megachiroptera. This group is commonly referred to as the megabats or flying foxes.
