An Egyptian tale: The Phoenix - Bird of the Sun

The Phoenix is the Greek name for the mythical
Egyptian bird, the 'bennu'. Both mean palm tree.
The only bird of it's kind, the Phoenix is a symbol
of the sun. It is said to live east of Egypt, in either
Arabia or India.
Every 500 years, when it begins to feel weak and
old, the Phoenix flies west to a mountain. There it
builds a fragrant nest on top of a palm tree, and
there the sun burns it to ashes, with the Phoenix
rising up once again from the ashes, fresh and
new and young ... |
