The giant forest scorpion, Heterometrus spinifer, is a species in the family Scorpionidae found in Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and other countries throughout Southeast Asia. Members of Heterometrus spinifer can reach lengths between 4 and 4.8 inches. Their exoskeletons are of a glossy black colouration, and sometimes iridesce gray-green when under direct light. It’s a very aggressive species of scorpion, with highly-developed pincers and potent venom that can cause severe pain, impaired vision and numbness in adult humans (but isn’t fatal). |
