Birding (safely) in N-Colombia
You have to drive a half hour coming from Riohacha towards Santa Marta and is indicated.
It has 2 sections and 2 entrances.
If you have a bit more time it is sure worth to go to Manaure and/or Musiche, especially in the migration period.
Musiche is a very small village close to Manaure. It is a bit complicated to get here.
Take a bus to Manaure (over 4-vias) and from here a local bus to Musiche.
It is a long way and there is also a short cut from Riohacha. Do not take this road as it is dangerous.
When you arrive in Musiche, ask the locals where the reserve is. There is no path
towards it, but just keep on walking north-west through the windy desert.
In November there are nice flocks of flamingo's around Musiche, but they are gone
in March-April (they are then in numbers near Maracaibo). |
