Some 523 Asiatic lions still survive in the grassland and woodland of India's Gir Forest. During the hottest hours of the day, the lions rest to avoid overheating, keeping their hunting to the cooler hours. The bulk of their prey consists of domestic livestock that graze the reserve, but they also catch wild animals up to the size of nilgai. |
