[National Geographic Wallpaper] King Penguin (임금펭귄)
South Georgia island, Falkland Islands
1998
Maria Stenzel
Though covered in a coat of thick, soft, brown feathers, a juvenile king penguin must wait to enter the water until the age of ten months, when its first set of waterproof, adult feathers begins to grow in. Until then, chicks are entirely dependent on their parents for food.

King Penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus) is the second largest species of penguin at about 90 cm (3 ft) tall and weighing 11 to 15 kg (24 to 33 lb), second only to the Emperor Penguin. King Penguins live on the subantarctic islands at the northern reaches of Antarctica, as well as Tierra del Fuego, the Falkland Islands, and other temperate islands of the region. |
