BANDED RAIL, VEKA (Gallirallus philippensis)
DESCRIPTION:
A large, strong-billed rail with a prominent reddish-brown crown, nape and stripe through eye. Eyebrow, throat and upper breast grey, belly and flanks barred black and white. Immature birds have similar plumage but are duller, whilst the precocious young have black down.
