Abstract: The Hawaiian monk seal is in the family Phocidae, and the scientific name is Monachus schauinslandi. There are three species of monk seals:Mediterranean (extant), Caribbean (presumed extinct) and Hawaiian (extant) that are the only true tropic seals.
