More lightly built than its cousin, but of a similar size, the pygmy chimpanzee is quite at home in the forest canopy, swinging from branch to branch with ease in search of the fruit that forms the greater part of its diet. Around midday it descends to the cooler ground level and forages for fallen fruit, returning to the trees when it is time to sleep. Pygmy chimpanzees are becoming increasingly rare in the wild, and there are very few presently held in captivity. |
