Slimmer and more agile than its American counterpart, the European bison or wisent is a native of the open, mixed primeval forests of northern, central and southern Europe. Driven out by hunting and agriculture, wild European bison now live only in the Białowieża forest in eastern Poland and the Caucasus Nature Reserve, Russia. |
