Maguari stork (Ciconia maguari)


These large storks have a height of up to 3 feet, a wingspan of up to 4 feet, and weigh 7 to 8 pounds. A unique characteristic is the reddish orange orbital skin below the eye and a creamy white iris. The tail is forked, and they have long broad wings. This bird’s long, pointed beak turns blue-grey at maturity. The beak is adapted for grabbing prey. They have long legs for walking and wading.

Lifespan in the wild is unknown, and the oldest known captive bird was over 20 years of age.
