Darwin's rhea (Pterocnemia pennata)

Darwin's rhea is named after Charles Darwin, who first identified the bird as a separate species from the grey rhea when he noted an anatomical peculiarity of the leg while eating rhea meat. An easier way to distinguish the two species is by the white-speckled colouration present on the wings and upperparts of Darwin's rhea.
