Sun bear, small omnivorous bear found in SE Asia; it is the smallest bear in the world. It has a short black coat with a crescent-shaped yellow mark on its chest and a light grey or orange muzzle. Its diet consists primarily of insects, such as bees and termites, but it also eats honey, fruit and small vertebrates. Length: 1.2m; weight 45kg. Family Ursidae; species Helarctos malayanus. |
