 Helix aspersa
 , California.  This is one of the two main species of snails eaten by the French - "escargots."  A species of Eastern Europe, it has been introduced by human commerce to many places in the world.  It is a serious pest in the western and southwestern United States, and in Australia (where it is known as the pestiferous "garden snail").
