Here's another one from the Wild World of Protozoa.
This picture shows a group of amoebae searching for food. Each of them
is about 1/500 inch in size.
The green spots in their protoplasma are algae being digested. Amoeba's
favourite prey consists of algae and bacteria.
Looking forward to bring you more, but please be patient. Microscopical
images usually need some digital enhancement to be close to the
original, and my professional commitments hardly leave time to scan and
process more than one image per day. Moreover, I shall not be able to
resume photography until late summer, so if i post too fast you will see
me run out of pictures soon.
If you have any comments or questions as to the biological or technical
background of these images please reply or e-mail me; I shall be pleased
to answer if I can.
So long,
Ralf
