TUNGROL / HIMALAYAN IBEX
FOR SOURCE, SEE END OF PAGE
The Ibex is undoubtedly the best known of all the game animals of
the Himalayas. It is an agile and graceful animal in its movements and is found in high
altitudes near the snow line. It is reported in good numbers in Pangi and Bharmour valleys
of Chamba district, Barabhangal area of Kangra district, upper reaches of Kullu district
and in Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts. The male and female generally live in
separate flocks. In October, the males mix up with the females and mate with them. The
young ones are delivered in May and June and generally in twins. It is an eceedingly wary
and timid animal and can make its way in an almost miraculous endurance and agility.
