The slender-bodied whitetip reef shark usually keeps its distance from divers but can be pugnacious when feeding. The whitetip is one of the few sharks that does not need to swim in order to pump water through its gills. It is occasionally seen motionless in sheltered sandy areas close to the reef edge. |
