3. Brown Thrasher ____________________________________________________
We have these birds down here, but they're often hard to spot, as
they prefer the thick underbrush, though I have on very rare
occasions seen them at my feeder ...
The first time I heard them, it was early evening, as it started
to get dark ... I heard a tremendous noise in the underbrush ...
As it got darker, the noise got louder ... got so I expected to
see a small lion come charging out of the brush ... I learned
later it was a trasher ... seems they get louder as it gets
darker ... must be a means of protecting themselves ...
They have a shifty-eyed look to them, are beautiful in color and
have a long tail which looks like it accounts for 1/2 their size
...
I did come upon Mom and Dad Thrasher feeding several young ones
last year, right in the middle of the path I often walk to the
sound ... |
