HW_-_Fire-bellied_Toad_jt
The oriental fire-bellied toad has a trick up its sleeve ... or on its belly.
When threatened, it throws itself upside down and exposes the bright
red-and-black colours on its underside. The effect is to startle and frighten
away the predator. If the attacker is unimpressed, the toad is a dead one.
From 'Hunters of the Wild' by Michael Bright subtitled 'hunting animals and
their strategies'. |
