One of the most powerful of all mountain predators, the golden eagle hunts across vast stretches of mountain. In the Scottish Highlands, it occupies a home range of about 70 square kilometres. It surprises its prey in the open and races forward with its talons extended. At the moment of impact, the bird may be travelling at 140km per hour. |
