The common toad, European toad, or simply the toad (Bufo bufo, from Latin bufo "toad"), is an amphibian found throughout most of Europe, in the western part of North Asia, and in a small portion of Northwest Africa.

The European green toad (Bufo viridis) is a species of toad found in mainland Europe. They live in many areas, including steppes, mountainous areas, semi-deserts, and urban areas.

The natterjack toad (Bufo calamita) is a toad native to sandy and heathland areas of Europe. Natterjacks have a very loud and distinctive mating call amplified by the single vocal sac found under the chin of the male, so their name literally means the chattering toad - the jack (or toad) that natters.

The common midwife toad (Alytes obstetricans) is a species of midwife frog in the family Alytidae (formerly Discoglossidae). It is found in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
