Helmeted hornbill (Rhinoplax vigil)
The helmeted hornbill is a very large bird known for its enormous, solid ivory-like casque, long central tail feathers, mostly blackish plumage with white bellies and distinctive red or turquoise bare skin on its neck. It is the largest hornbill species in Asia and is distinguished by its unique calls and head-to-head aerial combat between males for fruit. |
