Black-banded woodcreeper in Suriname

Black-banded woodcreeper in Suriname

Two pictures of the black-banded woodcreeper made by Foek Chin
Joe in Suriname near Zanderij airport in October 2006. The black
banding on the belly can be seen in the upper picture. It is
common in the rainforest. It follows army-ants, to eat the
insects they disturb. The hard curved ends of the shafts of the
tail feathers help to support the bird while climbing as can be
noticed in the photo above. Foek Chin Joe recorded this
sound
on the Brownsberg

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one
(group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations
on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of
each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna
and red for rainforest.
