To expand on that description of the animal in question... indeed,
it is a Quagga (Equus quagga quagga) which is an extinct
subspecies of the plains zebra. The last recorded Quagga died
in 1883 at the Amsterdam zoo. Attempts are being made to rebreed
the Quagga through careful selection of Damaraland zebra that
exhibit the reduced striping and brown coat color of the Quagga
who may be gone, but whose genes are not lost forever! Learn more
about the Quagga, visit The Quagga Breeding Project of the South
African Museum at http://www.museums.org.za/sam/quagga/quagga.htm
