Secretary bird, bird of prey found in Africa, S of the Sahara. It is pale grey with black markings and has quill-like feathers behind its ears, large wings and long legs and tail. It feeds on reptiles, birds' eggs and insects and lays its eggs in a tree nest. Height: 1.2m. Family Sagittariidae; species Sagittarius serpentarius. |
