Chilean flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis)
Chilean flamingos are found as high as 13,000 ft. up in the Andes mountain chain of South America. They and rarer species, especially the Caribbean flamingo, which breeds at only a few selected sites around the Gulf of Mexico, continue to be threatened by hunters collecting large numbers for zoos. |
