Few salamanders have been as well studied as the spotted salamander of the eastern USA. When the warm rains arrive in early spring, the spotted salamanders make mass migrations to woodland ponds where they engage mating for two or three days. After the females have laid their eggs, they return to their land-dwelling way of life until it is time to return to the ponds the next year. |
