[분류] 농어목(Perciformes) 이리치과(Anarhichadidae) 이리치속(Anarrichthys)에 딸린 물고기.

베도라치와 근연이며, 모양은 뱀장어와 비슷해서 생김새나 성질이 사납다. 수컷의 입과 머리의 혹 등이 암컷보다 더 크다. 산호초나 바위 틈새에 서식한다. 큰 입을 이용하여 성게를 잡아먹는다. 알래스카에서 캘리포니아 남부까지의 태평양 연안에 서식한다.
