HW_-_Great_Grey_Shrike_jt

The great grey shrike is aptly nicknamed 'the butcher bird'. Small birds in
flight and mouse-like rodents are caught and brought back to a favourite perch,
where they are impaled on thorns or sharp twigs. The bird returns to its
'larder' periodically to feed. This shrike has 'spiked' an injured sparrow, but
it might tackle birds the size of blackbirds and other thrushes.

From 'Hunters of the Wild' by Michael Bright subtitled 'hunting animals and their strategies'.
