They certainly are, Steve... Although, they rarely cause death in humans
unlike the black widow of which there are documented cases of causing the
death of a child... The third pic below is that of a brown recluse bite to
a man's shin (after a few days of tx)... If you have a weak stomach, don't
open it... These little nasties are usually fond of wooded areas...
Although, new home construction sites serve them nicely... And, anyone
building a new home should be aware of their possible presence... A friend
nearly lost a yellow lab pup shortly after their new home was
constructed...
brown recluse spider or violin spider, poisonous nocturnal
SPIDER, Loxoceles reclusa, Adults are 3/8 in. (10 mm) long and are light
brown with a dark, violin-shaped mark on the back near the head. In humans
their venom kills the tissue surrounding a bite and leaves a deep sore, but
only rarely does a bite result in death. Introduced into the southern
United States from South America.
