Oecophylla smaragdina (common names include weaver ant, green ant, green tree ant , ass bumper ant ,and orange gaster) is a species of arboreal ant found in Asia and Australia. They make nests in trees made of leaves stitched together using the silk produced by their larvae.
The green ants are bush tucker for local aborigines. The abdomen of the ant is a source of nutrition, rich in Vitamin C, producing a sweet taste when put on the tongue.
