Pink-necked green pigeon (Treron vernans)

The pink-necked green pigeon is a quiet bird that prefers to remain hidden high up in tree canopies feeding on berries and fruits, making it difficult to spot initially. When it moves, however, the pink-necked green pigeon becomes much easier to spot since its large bulk means that it tends to make a lot of noise. As its name suggests, the is largely green in colour, with yellowish-green underparts, red legs, black primary wing feathers and a black bar across the tip of the tail. Sexually dimorphic, females look very drab with a greyish-green head and nape while the males are much more colourful, with a pink neck and nape, and an orange patch of feathers on the lower breast. In the evenings, pink-necked green pigeons can often be seen in pairs or sometimes in larger assemblages ‘cuddling’ together for the night.
