A very distinctly banded cobra. The ground colour is usually yellowish-brown but can be orange or grey. There is a variable number of narrow black bands that cross the entire body both dorsally and ventrally. Individuals from the eastern part of its range have the bands greatly reduced or even absent, especially posteriorly. This is a large, robust cobra with a relatively thick body that can reach 9 feet in length. |
