All venomous snakes native to the U.S. (except for the coral snake) have vertical pupils and heat sensing pits between the eye and nostril.
The shape of the head can be misleading as many non-venomous species when threatened, will flatten their head/jaws giving the appearance of a triangular head. As an example the attached photo is of harmless northern brown snake (Storeria dekayi dekayi).
