RANGE Rare and breeds only in Japan on Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, perhaps also the Ryukyu Islands.
Most have left breeding range by late October and winter in the southern Ryukyus and Volcano Islands, Taiwan, south-eastern China and the Philippines, but also recorded in the Palau Islands and northern Sulawesi.
