Humpback whale
One of the best known whale species because of their distinctive shape and behaviour, including varied singing and acrobatics.
Current estimates put numbers at around 12,000 to 15,000. Very limited whaling is permitted in Greenland and St Vincent and the Grenadines, in the Caribbean, for "aboriginal subsistence purposes".
