Critters for John White

Because of wrestling with a new camera and not exactly knowing how to set
the flash in re the aperture, I only got a couple of shots of these toady
types. I _think the self-satisfied toad is a Colorado River Toad or
variation thereof. The little green frog is about 2 inches long and seemed
nervous. Taken yesterday at the Desert Museum in their aquatic life
exhibit.

BTW, the Colorado River Toad is toxic to dog who try to eat them.
Secretions in the toad's skin also cause hallucinations in people who _lick
the toad's skin. No, I'm not making this up. There _are people who will
lick a toad. :-)

The Colorado River Toad or Bufo alvarius, also known as the Sonoran Desert Toad, is a psychoactive toad found in the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico. The skin and venom of Bufo alvarius contain 5-MeO-DMT and bufotenin.
