Antilles pinktoe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[Photo] Female Avicularia versicolor.
The Antilles pinktoe tarantula (Avicularia versicolor) is native to Guadeloupe and Martinique in the Caribbean Sea, but is a popular spider pet due to its docile character and unique coloration.
Antilles pinktoe tarantulas are arboreal (tree-dwelling). They possess urticating hairs for defense, but unlike terrestrial new world tarantulas they are not able to kick them.
Spiderlings of A. versicolor are bright blue. As they grow, they gradually lose the blue coloration and achieve a mix of red, purple, and pink with a green carapace.
