Bubba is a male black&white (or common) tegu (Tupinambis teguixin)..
He is about 18" long, although I haven't measured him. I got him in
September of 1993, but do not know how old he is. He is the least
pleasant of all of my pets, being the only one who's bitten me out of
hatred, instead of annoyance.
It doesn't show in these pictures, but he has himself raised up in a
defensive or attack posture, and is trying to hiss.

The gold tegu (Tupinambis teguixin prev. Tupinambis nigropunctatus), also known as golden tegu, common tegu, black tegu, Colombian tegu and tiger lizard (on Trinidad), is a species of tegu. Gold tegus live in the tropical forests of northern and central South America, as well as Panama. |
