Euroleon nostras is an antlion found over most of Europe. Adults may reach up to 30 mm long, with a wingspan of 70 mm. Larvae require dry sandy soil, close to vertical sandy ledges that help adults emerge. The adults need tall, isolated Scots pine trees nearby, where mating takes place.
United Kingdom
E. nostras is an extremely rare insect in Britain, only known from the Minsmere area of the Suffolk coast, although a population of this or a related species has very recently been found near Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk. To date, adult insects have not been found in Norfolk, only first and final instar larvae and an un-hatched cocoons. Because of this, the record is not yet confirmed as E. nostras, as other species are closely similar.
