Silver Y moth (Autographa gamma)

When feeding, the silver Y moth drinks nectar by inserting its long, tube-like mouthparts into a flower. Like humans, moths (and butterflies) have colour vision and are attracted by bright flowers (except red ones, which are beyond their vision). Moths and butterflies can also see the ultraviolet end of the colour spectrum and are able to detect ultraviolet colours on flowers that are invisible to human eyes, but which can be revealed by photography.
