The head and chest are streaked, and the lower belly is finely barred. The species has a conspicuous backwards crest. Juveniles are paler. The call is a high, screeching “week wik!” or single “week!”. The Philippine Hawk-Eagles are mainly found in tropical moist lowland forests and montane forests, up to an altitude of 1900 meters.
