Eurema hecabe, the large grass yellow or common grass yellow, is a small pierid butterfly species found in Asia, Australia and Africa.
Papilio demoleus is a common and widespread swallowtail butterfly. The butterfly is also known as the common lime butterfly, lemon butterfly, lime swallowtail, small citrus butterfly, chequered swallowtail, dingy swallowtail and citrus swallowtail. These common names refer to their host plants, which are usually citrus species such as the cultivated lime. Unlike most swallowtail butterflies, it does not have a prominent tail. The butterfly is a pest and invasive species from Asia and Australia which has spread to the Caribbean and Central America.
The blue pansy (Junonia orithya) is a nymphalid butterfly with many subspecies occurring from Africa, through southern and south-eastern Asia, and in Australia. In India it is known as the blue pansy, in southern Africa it is known as the eyed pansy, and in Australia this butterfly is known as the blue argus.
The splendid ochre or symmomus skipper (Trapezites symmomus) is a butterfly of the family Hesperiidae. It is found in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.
The yellow admiral or Australian admiral (Vanessa itea) is a butterfly native to Australia, New Zealand, Lord Howe Island, and Norfolk Islands. The Māori name is kahukowhai, which means "yellow cloak".
The painted lady (Vanessa cardui) is a well-known colorful butterfly, known as the cosmopolitan in North America. This butterfly has a strange pattern of flying in a sort of screw shape.
The lesser wanderer (Danaus petilia) is a species of butterfly in the nymphalid Danainae subfamily. It a migratory species which is found in Australia and in tropical countries. Its larvae feed on native and introduced cotton bush species.
The fiery copper or dull copper (Paralucia pyrodiscus) is an endemic Australian butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. One of the two subspecies, P. p. lucida, is commonly known as the Eltham copper. |
