The giant sand scorpion or dune scorpion (Smeringurus mesaensis) in a common arachnid found in the deserts of southern California, Arizona and Mexico. This species is fossorial, spending the vast majority of its life in burrows, and generally only emerging at night to mate and hunt for prey. As with all scorpions, this species will fluoresce under ultraviolet or black light. |
