Would you please inform this reptile and amphib ignorant person of the
difference between salamanders and newts?
Are they the same?
Great pictures! I seldom see them in the wild. Are they endangered?

Hi Neysa,
Thanks for the kind words regarding my photos!
Salamanders and newts are similar but not the same. Newts are mainly
aquatic, have rough skin, have indistinct coastal groves, lack nasolabial
grooves and have two longitudinal rows of teeth on the palate that extend
backward between the orbits.
While there are several species of salamanders considered endangered, most
salamanders are shy and secretive relaying on camouflage and stealth for
their survival. Most of the time you won't see them unless you're
looking for them.
